Collegial Extension Network. Live CME presentation ED Management Strategies for Daily Practice: A Clinician’s Guide to Optimizing Patient Outcomes. Distinguished faculty members nationwide share their perspective in managing ED. Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common medical condition with a multifactorial nature, often resulting from organic issues, psychological issues, or a combination of the two. Erectile function may be affected by several factors including vascular, neurogenic, hormonal, and psychosocial issues. It is continually underdiagnosed and undertreated and can significantly impact a man’s overall physical and emotional well-being. ED is increasingly recognized as a vascular condition that may indicate serious underlying or associated medical problems that may contribute to cardiovascular risk. Topics covered in this live CME activity include causes of and risk factors for ED, discussing sexual function issues with patients (and their partners, when appropriate), conducting a thorough patient assessment, developing a management strategy with appropriate therapeutic options, continuous patient and partner education, and patient monitoring and follow-up. Pharmacotherapy using phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors is often deemed appropriate as first-line treatment for ED, and the latest information for these agents, including novel dosing regimens and applications, is presented.
